In this article, we will explore Differences between Computer and Calculator.  A computer is an electronic machine that allows you to solve problems. This basic definition also fits on a simple calculator. However, there are four major differences between computer and calculator, which are listed below.

Four Major Differences between Computer and Calculator

Internal Memory

Computers have internal memory, which is used for storing and programs’ execution. Today, there are calculators in the market which also have limited memory as compared to a computer’s memory.

Stored Instructions

Although calculators have some stored instructions such as formulas and ratios, they do not carry any type of program. In computers, a set of instructions can be stored in memory. These instructions specify the order of operations to solve a problem. The stored instructions make computers more automatic because the entire set of steps to be followed is determined in advance and then run one by one and does not require any human effort.

Alphabetic Data

A computer can work on alphabetic data, including special characters, but a calculator supports only numeric data.

Speed

A computer is considered much faster than a calculator. The significant difference is that a computer can perform several operations very fast on data and store large chunks of information.

Conclusion

To sum up, in this article, we have listed four major differences between computer and calculator  in terms of internal memory, stored instructions, alphabetic data, and speed. We stated that both computers and calculators have internal memory, but computers have significantly larger internal memory compared to calculators. Similarly, while both can store instructions, a computer can store a set of instructions in its memory. A computer can work with alphabetic data, including special characters, whereas a calculator supports only numeric data. Last but not least, a computer is considered much faster than a calculator.
